Latimer Plane L4Guys,
The chimney and safety valve on my L4 look like they should be removable, mainly so you can fill the boiler.
On mine they are siezed up, stuck or whatever. This is no good, an engine I can't steam is no good.
Can anyone describe to me how they are removable, or provide a picture of one with them off so I can work out how to attack mine.
I assume the chimney just slots on to the safety valve, and it in turn screws into the boiler bush?.

My L4 had a seized chimney/SV when I got it, some gentle work with a small mole grip freed it, the SV though will seperate from the chimney too, although mine is stuck fast.

Golly - that all sounds a bit dire!
Your quite right BC, the Chimney should be a push fit over the SV and the SV screws into the boiler bush as you'd expect.
I'd try freeing the chimney first. Start by squirting a load of WD40 in and letting it soak. Maybe a little heat to expand the chimney may help after a while - don't light up the oil though!!!!
It's possibly siezed up with scale so maybe some sort of descaler would work?
The SV's quite substantial but the chimney's similar to Mamod/Cyldon, easily damaged - good luck!

Possibly rocking the chimney very gently from side to side, whilst the SV is inserted may help a little.

Ta gents. I'll have a go at it later in the week.
Today, I've been making a 3 wick burner out of an old SE2a boiler for my Black Flatbase SE1, also removing the endcap to sort the loose safety valve bush, now just some pipes and it'll be a runner.
