Both wonderful condition. The MM2 is a very late version with sight glass, c1978 Id say. Excellent additions indeed.

Now that's a first for me - never seen a spirit-fired Mamod with a sight-glass before (or maybe I've just not noticed?). Come to think of it, I didn't realise the Minors ever had them!
That's a really great aquisition Mike.

Thx guys
Its my first Minor with a sight glass Steve, I must admit though I prefare the water level plug
Any one have any ideas as to why Mamod drilled the hole in the fire box in this pic

Probably for the SP3, since this was a few years after the MEC1. Then again they might have had a stock of fireboxes, left over. Strange one, first time I have seen it.

Yep - that's clearly the firebox for the Meccano/SP3 engine, it's also drilled for the chrome cover fixings.
Mike's said it should be solid fuel fired, are the guides in the base the same for both burners?

Good point! There are subtle differences over the years, but in the latter years of production the MM2 baseplate could take either a solid or meths steel pan type burner.
