I recieved a email from the UN today

It must be my lucky day today as I have recieved a email from the United Nations Shocked
And whats more they want to give me money Very Happy

Good day to you. I am Alvin Holman, a staff of the United Nations (UN) and I also know that thismail will be of great surprise to you. I got your e-mail address from theInternet as I was soliciting for a partner who will work with us. Please, donot see this mail as one of those stories from some Africans of which I havereceived such too. In recent times, there have been conflicts all over the world especially in theMiddle East, which has been of top concern to the UN. I happen to be one of theofficials assigned to Iraq. I also played a great part in seeing thatAfghanistan is been rebuilt and those casualties, especially children are welltaken care of. During this period, my partners and I were able to secure someamount of money amounting to Thirty Million United State Dollars ($30M), whichwas moved to Europe. Moving this fund was easy because of the connections mypartners had. Now that things have settled, we want to move the money out ofthe deposit company where it is deposited. We are contacting you to work with us because we are civil servants and cannotdo it alone. The presence and participation of a neutral person is needed toachieve this transaction hence my contacting you. Note that all the relevantdocuments will be in place for this transaction to be hitch free. For yourparticipation, you will be getting 20% of the total sum. This transaction will take not more than fourteen (14) banking/working days tobe finalized from the day of commencement. Treat with to secrecy, as we willnot want a blackmail or media scandal. You are the only person I contacted forthis transaction and will hope to get your reply ASAP for furthercorrespondence via my Private email ID: alvinholman6@aim.com Yours faithfully, Alvin Holman.alvinholman6@aim.com

Wow what a great opportunity, one not to be missed.

I wouldn't normally believe these e-mails, but it does point out it isn't one of the African scams, and as it is from the UN it must be trust worthy.

Think of all those steam engines you will be able to buy with the money you make from this.

Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Does anyone ever really fall for this rubbish??

Sadly, I believe they do.

These things get sent out by the millions and so the spammers only need a minute hit rate to make them successful. e.g. if only 0.01% reply to a typical spam message sent out to 10 million addresses, that's still 1000 replies.
If people didn't respond then spammers would quickly give up.

A few months back I received a typical phishing scam email allegedly from a (U.S.) bank requesting my security details. It was so badly done and the security non existant that you could easily see the database of details from those responding. Shocked
Whilst there were probably a few bogus entries (such as mine from a Mr Mouse residing in Burbank, California), most of the several hundred responses were genuine, and more were being added by the minute.

Apparantly so, 419 a year
Ive just read this on MSN news

"In Nigerian 419 scams, victims reply to an e-mail that a war widow, exiled businessman or government official needs help to get a large sum of money out of the country. The scam began after Nigeria’s economy fell in the 80s, which took advantage of greedy investors seeking shady deals in the oil industry. Usually, the victim is required to send money for a bribe or gesture of good faith, only to find the rewards never materialise."
