Whats your oldest engine
How far back can we push the boundaries of old steam toys
My oldest is a Meccano 1929 steam engine, but thats not really old, its still a baby
Lets see how far back we can go post a pic of your oldes steam toy
Just for fun
Nick
We'll have to wait for John Chapman to sign in (I think he may have a couple pre-1900)
My oldest is my Bing with dynamo. I think the last date we figured out was 1907-09 (maybe as late as 1912), so we'll just say 100 years old.

My oldest would be one of the Bowmans, maybe the M122. 1930-1970 is my collecting period.

because I prefer New Zealand engines my oldest is a Cranko
some where between 1945 to 1956
but if I look at my other engines then my oldest would be
this 1924-1932 Bing but it needs a lot of work
and can i include this ?
looks like a steam power house but in reality is a clockwork toy
also 1924-1932

A nice little Bing Overtype there Dennis. A very similar one appears in my 1930 catalogue as a model 10/129. There are two in the range, 10/129/1 having a base size 18.5cm x 8.5cm and the 10/129/2 being 22cm x 10cm - which is yours?

Great piece of video of a great-looking engine Nick. Most enjoyable - thanks.
Is that a switch on the dynamo or just part of the frame?

Some very fine looking engines there chaps,
all in exceptional condition for their respective ages
I guess my oldest engine would be one the Bowmans,
there's a few to choose from but difficult to age precisely
(certainly not as old as those already posted).

Oldest English Engine is my MCTI Vertical at 1920 or possibly my Barr Night horizontal.
Oldest Foreign engine is my carpet dribbler locomotive of about 1890, It is not designed to run on rails as the front wheels are set at an angle to make it run in a circle.

That reference to Barr Knight sounds interesting Ian - any pics please?
