How Many Engines for STIA

Fred has sad that the table size at STIA is about 5X2, this raises one question, how many engines makes a good display?
Do you go for the less is more approach, few engines with the majority running or the lets takes as many as will fit on the table all cramped up with little onr no room for running.
I like Mike am trying to get a display together.
Spokesmann

I have asked for 2 tables, one for display the other as my 'steaming area'. If I have one Ill have to have a little rethink!! Ill be taking all the engines in the pictures on my STIA thread, plus my SE3/MM2 workshop. That amounts to 15 engines plus the workshop. I will not be steaming all of them though, I hope to have in steam a selection from E158, M122, M135, M140, SE4 workshop and the SE3/MM2 workshop which is on a large piece of Oak worktop. Space is the crucial factor MF, some people display more than they steam, some like to steam a lot more and need some working space around the engine/s. As some of my engines are very small, ie the M180/E158/M158/M140 so I can get away with it . . .

I would say also the tables are nearer 6 x 2.5
(Fred will have the exact dimentions!)

This lot:

...is on a 4.5' square table . . .

One word of warning though, dont do as some do, ie bring everything including the kitchen sink . . .  Rolling Eyes  Laughing

No I Wont, I am coming round to the Idea that Less is Definitely More. I like Themes and well organised displays not a jumbled selection. Not to knock anyone's collections  as any toy steam is good but I thing organisation is the Key.

I want a nice display for the Twins also going to bring some Cyldons if I can get them ready in time.
Spokesmann

I look forward to seeing the Cyldons MF, been on my watch list for a while... a few went thru my fingers last year! Rolling Eyes

I agree about themes though! My theme this year is British toy steam, with an emphasis on British makes other than Mamod (although I will bring 3), so Bowman is my main engine of choice this year . . .
John Chapman

Not totally sure what I am taking this year as I will be exhibiting jointly with Odilon and his friend Paul.

I tend to agree with the quality not quantity school.  For what it's worth here's a photo of my table at the 2005 S.T.I.A.

steamyjim

I am bringing some of my modded engines this year. Including a BIG generating plant and a modded loco that i have yet to finish Laughing

There will be some impresive kit on show  Shocked

Did you ever descover the manufacturer on the engine top row, second from right John ?
fcrammond

Just for the record we have a wide variety of tables at STIA as we havwe scrounged them from all over. I work on the basis of 5x2 as it's easier to come to terms with a larger than expected table than trying to squeeze onto a too small table.
Fred
steamyjim

I can bring me own tables if needed Laughing

No still remains a mystery  Crying or Very sad but it's a nice engine.
fcrammond

I might take you up on that Jim but my usual problem is not tables but space to put them in. We have a lot of new faces this year so i shall probably need a good shoehorn.

steamyjim

If it is any help i can chuck some of my tables in the car. Im not sure of the size but i shall mesure them Wink
fcrammond

I'll let you know nearer the date but what I really need is a spare shed!
Spokesmann

I hope to be steaming this one at STIA...

The superb PW203

I think MF will like to see this one go. Its a very good, very smooth steamer.

Pretty much a complete collection is the order of the day, as long as you get all the tables you request Laughing  Laughing
Sadly i can't make it this year  Crying or Very sad
Boilertite

Here's one Stationary Engine that I won't be taking to STIA - its just to big and heavy (and its not steam powered anyway!)

But Andy(sleigh) and myself will be taking a good selection of Mamod stuff along
MFSteam

Is that a Lister D?
Boilertite

Yes its a Lister D (petrol) half horse power model. I've had it for years but its not quite in running condition and needs a few things done to it when I can find the time - too busy polishing my Mamods at the moment!
Spokesmann

Well Im going, Mooseman, John Chapman, Steamyjim .  . .
Trojanhorse2

I'm trying to cover some ground that isn't already covered, so I'm bringing 4 of my boats, sundry marine engines, a couple of Merseys, my WorMar workshop and a couple of Gintschel engines. I'm joint exhibiting with Paul Gray, who will be bringing some gorgeous early German stuff, and John Chapman who's bringing his astonishing Snipe and lots of other goodies.

Can't wait! John's coming here on Saturday, I'm sure we'll have a good old chinwag and maybe fire up a couple of engines to get us in the mood, and then we'll tootle over on Sunday. Millie the Mooseling is coming, of course Wink
John Chapman

As Mooseman says, I'll be bringing the Snipe, a couple of Merseys, a couple of Cyldons, the Jensen 75, 1929 Meccano and probably a couple of others.

Looking forward to the show and looking forward to meeting up with people.  Smile
Spokesmann

Should be a good bash John, I was going to bring the unfinished hull of my Arrow, but space is an issue here, so Im just bringing the power unit the ME1. Im bringing the ME2 and ME3 as well though.
Spokesmann

JUST TO WET YOUR APPETITIES HERE ARE A FEW SHORTS VIDS FROM LAST YEARS EVENT.

Trojanhorse2

Well for those of you that don't know me....in the Bowman trains video that's me, the guy with the grey fleece, specs and a bad stubble, trying to get my newly bought Bowman 300 to work. My daughter Millie can be seen busily charming various members of the Bowman Circle.

The Bowman 300 wouldn't quite run on the day due to (I later discovered) a warped heat shield - it now runs like the clappers.
Spokesmann

I hope everyone is ready for Sunday? Wink

Im off at about 8 tomorrow, I wont be back on until Friday - we are off to Birningham on Tuesday morning, so we have a few days in Leicester. A full report and pics will be up by the weekend. Wink
newts

Safe journeys to all of you going to stia this weekend.
Hope you all have a great time & enjoy those first face to face meetings Laughing
Hope it's warm enough in the big shed for you & those that have to be in the tent, i hope you get first pick of the bargains before the bloodhounds arrive Very Happy
Spokesmann

Well Im off in an hour or so, just got to load up the car etc . . .

Ted will be keeping an eye on things whilst Im gone. I will not be back on until Friday, unless I can get to a PC or Mac at my Hotels . . . I am off to Birmingham on Tuesday so I'm making a week of it in the Midlands.

Hope to see a lot of you there . . . .

Steam in to STIA 2008!
