Hornby 'Schools' Class

I have just received my copy of the Hornby Magazine, and within it were the first pictures of Hornby's Schools class.

I have to say the old Hornby version doesn't compare at all. They have used brand new tooling, and my jaw dropped when I saw it!

This is certainly on my want list, although it will be 'Charterhouse' in SR Maunsell Green minus smoke deflectors 8)

Charterhouse - very expensive school to attend, £28.000 a year.

Hornby seem to getting their s*** togther on these new models.

That's a very odd comment Confused

Here are the pics, including that of the Standard 4:

My one criticism of the Schools is the colour of the reversing rod. It sticks out like a sore thumb Confused

The pipework detail on the standard class 4 is particularly impressive to me.

Looks good, but, a minor criticism, why are they doing those blueish reversing rods, they have used them on the King Arthurs as well and they look naff.  That said Hornby are up there with Bachmann these days.

I'm waiting for the T9

I'm not sure if you have heard yet, John, but the T9 release date has been put back to December/January.

I think they are trying to get round the fact that the T9 might have to have traction tyres due to its size and weight distribution...

Going back to the reversing rods, surely they could go to the expense (which I suspect would be minor) of setting up a machine to stamp out steel rods Confused Or even painting them in a metallic paint...

Yes, I had heard it had been delayed.  Re, the traction tyres, I hope they don't resort them but 4-4-0s are notoriously tricky in small scales.
