Thats a very fine pre-war example. Not sure about the feet though!

but they do keep it off the work top when running, a major problem with the early engines.

Aye! I sit mine on thick cardboard, ie the Bowmans etc . .

feetThe "feet" are from the local diy shop. I just use them to stop the underside of the base from getting scratched and burning the table top.
They do look big and clumsy though.
Anybody got an alternative ?

The rubber feet seem fine to me
Do they stop the engine from vibratring ?

Some of the flatbase engines such as the MM2 and SE2 had feet made of hard rubber or some in wood.

feetThe feet help a little with the vibration.
The black bit is rubber.

A picture of another Mamod Minor 1.
(with big feet)
Is this post war ?
The base is one hole longer and the burner and disk crank are different.
The book doesnt mention a change in base size

Very curious! Never seen a green painted disc-crank, is it original?
Generally speaking post war engines had their engine frames painted, the pre-war Minors just had brass engines frames as far as I can tell. As for the base, it could be genuine, how does it look in comparison to the rest of the engine in terms of wear? does it look like its been disturbed? The base is from an MM2 by the looks of it.

minor 1The paint all looks origional to me.
The paint is scratched and worn in all the usual places.
The crank disk is embossed as per page 19 of the book.
The firebox confuses me.
It is stamped for the band at the top and bottom.

This Minor is the same (inc burner) apart from disk and firebox.

This is just another example of an admission from the “Bible”, as is often the case experience is sometimes greater than reading the good book Your engine is completely original in having the larger base, I have seen a number of them like this. The green paint is the give away as to its age, this was not used on either the engine frames nor the burners before the war, the burners were black and the engine frames were unfinished brass. The origin of the larger base is not the post war MM2, it is to small to be that and it does not have the turned up ears to hold the burner in place. The only other engine I have seen with this size base is a pre war engine, The Minor 2 twin
The pre war Minor 2 was available with both the standard size base and the larger one, I chose to go with the smaller base on production engines but I have made a larger one

very nice.
I have a similar MM1 with the rasied base (c1949?) and a St Marys Row box, which was the previous address to Camden Street (1949) - the rasied base being later than the flat base - the usual confusing mix of Malins old and new . . .

It is indeed MF, another oddity from the early years of Malins engineers. Runs like a dog as well . . .
