Hello from the WGR!!

Hello all
ive just joined the forum and thought i would start off by showing a picture of the first loco in our fleet at the WGR (watsons garden railway).

the modifications on this loco are:
lapped and ported cylinders, regulator, uprated safety valve, 3 wick meths burner, lengthened exhaust pipe, water top up valve, steel wheel set and brass chimney cowl.

Welcome to the forum mate!

Lovely loco! Can't get enough of the Mamod SL's myself!
spug103

Ive got a real special sl in the works shed at the moment awaiting completion, Not one for the purists but the loco was burnt out and hacked up when i got it.
along with a great bolt on mod that will change lives....

n.b. i try to make my modifications look factory built when possible as in not over detailed and in keeping with the mamod look.
cheers

Welcome to the Forum!

Cant go wrong with a mamod loco!
Mamod Collector

A very big welcome to the forum Ben, I like your take on modding as in makeing the mod look like a factory build
I know very little about the Mamod locos, but I do like to see the modded ones  Very Happy

Fine job on the loco too
SillyBilly

Welcome Ben, I look forward to seeing the railway.
spug103

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.
heres a few more photos,
firstly of the rolling stock so far.

And heres a couple of the raised railway plinth im making, it is about 1.6M x 3M the railway will go around the top edge and have a branch off towards the house along the fence where the engine shed will be, im leaving the centre clear to rent the land out to my wife to grow vegetables  Laughing

and heres a photo of me little sl1 getting a good bit of steam up, this was taken part way through the mods.

Keep us posted with lots of pics of your railway build Ben   Very Happy

That's looking good Ben, about all I've got room for.
SillyBilly

Looks like a good level base at a good height for working at, perhaps not for derailments.

Welcome from me Ben, I look forward to seeing all the developments!

Hello again all
unfortunatly there was a disaster at the wgr works shed today, on the final coat of paint to the bodywork, the numpty in charge of the paint department had forgotten to pre-warm the paint before useage, end result crinkled paint,
never the less i have still assembled loco #2 for some publicity photos, as you can see, its not quite standard anymore!

here is the replacement decal i will be adding to the side tank

cheers

How does the 0-6-0 perform?
silverfoxsteam

Looks good Ben - maybe it's just the photo, but are you being over critical about the paint?

The 0-6-0 conversion looks very good, as Mike says, how well does it run and will it be OK on the curves?
spug103

ive been bench testing the chassis set up on steam for a few months to check everything works ok, and it seems to run really well.
the loco gets around mamod curves easily, thses are obviously a fair bit tighter than the peco, that alot of people run,
the maximum recommended distance between the first and last axles being 100mm, i have kept this distance to 90mm,
the rear of the cab is still being finished it will have a coal bunker attached,
if theres enough demand then there may be a limited production run (a few hundred) being distributed by a well known supplier! Wink
you heard it here first

cheers

it would be rude to talk to anyone else with the brilliant service and help hes given to me before now, although obvously he has yet to see the final model as it isnt tottaly finished, and he has to decide wether it is a viable product, we will see...
i have a few other projects too i will let you all know once i have finished the prototypes
Mike do you use dream steam yourself?
also do you go to the buckfast track?
cheers

I met Alan last year at Exeter, he is about 10 minute cycle ride from me, alas I have no Mamod locos!
SillyBilly

Well if I had a few rand to spend a even more spare time I could be 'forced' to build a small elevated garden railway . . .  Laughing
spug103

so far i have been very surprised at how little the elevated layout is costing, im using mamod track, apart from points it seems that people seem to want to give it away in favour of the peco stuff, which i know is a great quality track (working for a previous company i made some of their press tools)
and the wood for the base was bought at a local sawmill for a very good price about £50 so far including the decking screws ect,
it all depends how far you want to go with it (or how far you are allowed to go Wink )
so i say go for it!!!!!!!
cheers

Looks Brill!

And as we have discussed, Rapier Wink
spug103

my better half says yes to a rapier!!!

made-in-england

Even better! If you would like when I can find my spare I can post you a spare binnie engineering catalouge, mainly parts but some wagon kits ofr about £8 a time..
spug103

that sounds great!!
thanks
SillyBilly

If you go for a Rapier, a 4w drive chain is also a good adition.
