Hello and Greetings
Hello and greetings.
Looking after my two grand children, I decided to amuse them by steaming a TE1a I had had for years. They were not too amused but I was thrilled.
I went to retrieve my collection, which had not been steamed for 12/15 years.
I have never been a fanatic, but I have several Mamods, an SEL Junior, a Stuart 10H, a number of scratchbuilt oscillators and a boiler!
All of these I intend to steam during the remainder of school holidays to see if the boys will 'bite'.
I found this site by accident, and I am sure I will have many questions to which you experts will find trivial.
I will post some pictures as soon as I can.
In the meantime, nice to make your acquaintance and best wishes

Mamo SE3 - My first postThanks for such a nice response, world-wide as well!
Has anybody else ever embarked on an enterprise and then found things less easy than expected. Thereby hangs many a tale, I'm sure.
Suffice it to say that it is all of 15 years since last did any modelling and 8 years since THE HOUSEMOVE.
Most of my carpentry gear had been moved into a small workshop, but the modelling stuff was largely still in crates and boxes- in a large barn! Regretfully I had disposed of my lathe at the time.
So far I can account for the TE1A, a SE1, an SE2 partially dismantled and an SEL Junior. I've recently acquired an SE3, and it is this model I will demonstrate - I just had to see if it would run.
This is all that I have running just now so here goes.

Is there not a way of uploading directly rather than via a proxy?
The model ran without any trouble, as you can see. I won't be offended If you tell me it's rubbish, and any comments will be gratefully received.

Thats a little beauty Alan, was it a runner when you aquired it or have you had to repair it

That is indeed a cracking engine Alan.

Apart from renewing washers and checking the steam valve the only attention it had was a little oil. It was the first steaming, but I had turned it over once before I started the camera.
It does seem to be entirely original, so I will not be doing anything not cosmetic.
Any thoughts on that?

According to Mamod's own figures they made over 70000 SE3's
So you could do anything you want to it Alan as they are not a rare steam engine
You could use it as a workhorse and just oil it, or perhaps a full restoration is in order
I have seen a few good SE3 mods so lots of options what ever you do Alan please be sure to take lots of photos
