Replies in no particular order.

Its a 5 ton Steam Tractor. So a light road locomotive, about 4 Nominal Horse Power (the big ones you see pulling the load at dorset are usually 6 7 or 8NHP, Boadicea is 10NHP).

The videos look faster than it felt, it is not super fast, and only 2speed. However 10mph is easily achievable and maintained, 15mhp would probably be flat out. On the other hand a traction engine would be going flat out at 8ish, so its quite quick and covers the miles. Got about 12miles to do on Friday night, and a couple of hours should see it done (touch wood).

We were pulling fathers patent pikey hut. He bought a home made people carrying trailer from a friend. 1930's Hyumber wheels and axles, rest is softwood and was fitted with bench seats on each side. Father has added some hoops, and that horrid tarp, so it now looks like a pikey hut. That said it keeps you dry if you are having a ride, and its somewhere to sleep when the wife chucks you out of the caravan.

Nant Y Garth Pass, firehole doors were glowing red at this point, had been climbing for about 2 mile.

Going up 'Allt Sally' Bryneglwys. About 1in 7. Far steeper than it looked. Bottom gear, wide open regulator pretty much from the bottom. had 160lbs on in the start of the vid, safety valves lifted just as she dug into the climb, blowing off hard against the hill and injector by the time we got to the camera woman.

Brilliant stuff, how do you change gear/ and whats the road tax? Love it!

Them two levers on the right hand side above the guards. outside one is bottom, the inside is top.

Handbook says you need to stop and I usually do. However 'racing changes' are possible, but I've not tried it with this engine yet.

Yes, I wondered if it could be done on the move!, looks great fun but hard work too...
