Guess the partsI've had these parts for a couple of years, only found out what they were for a few months ago. Just thought i'd post em up for a little fun
They've been stored in the garage amongst other steam spares, dreaming that one day i'd find the rest of it in a junk shop

that didn't last long did it
an item appeared last week described as thus;-
''Weird and wonderful little freelance engine, appears to be made up from bits and bobs, on meccano style 13 x 5 inch baseplate.
Has a dummy boiler surround enclosing a mamod size boiler which has a coil tube around it (flash steam perhaps?).
Sold missing burner tray and untested, good project!''
The plot thickens, After a couple of PM's one of our resident steam captains confirmed my suspicions about this loosely described engine on a very large yellow meccano baseplate. Expectations were for a pretty high end price, even though the intial listing pic was not great.

Surprisingly bidding wasn't too frantic (i've seen mamod whistles fetch more) & this duly arrived yesterday.
I'm well chuffed & hopefully this one will be chuffing away at the weekend on a test run.

Yes, i think she has potential
The plan is to build a repro Peggy launch in the future, unless an empty hull should turn up somewhere.
Now i'm happy to say that the asbestos in this pic has been safely removed.
Here she is with the missing bits, just need to make flap for the burner.
Should i repaint or not

I don't think they should be firing it in an enclosed space with the asbestos still in I'm all for keeping an engine original, but small fibres of asbestos becoming airborne from the heat of the burner is too high a risk for me. Especially in this litigious society we live in.

True Mike, depends on if it still had the original lagging!
I was looking at one at Kempton - an instant candidate to catch fire. Fascinating historical stuff none-the-less.

I'm not too sure how effective the lagging would have been, as it was abit hit & miss with its installation. The small boiler would have meant very short run times, the heat saving would have been negligible. I'll get some pics up soon with the shroud off.

Yes,judging by the boiler size the run time may have only been 10 minutes or so?
