Why didn't you just solder it back on?

Yeah, sorry Chad, I kinda meant, where is it now - it didn't disintegrate did it? As Nick says, why didn't you just reattach it?
Nick
If the endcap is lost/ruined, you could file/sand down the freeze plug so it's a closer match to the other end cap.

Its a nice bit of soldering Chad but it just doesnt look right
As Nick says, cant you remove the freeze plug and file it to shape it a little more
steamykid
the original cap melted just beyond repair
and if i tryed that idea, atleast if i used the tools to my disposal, i'd just make it look worse or shabby
Nick
Does your dad have an angle grinder? It wouldn't take much.
steamykid
got stolen.
infact just last week
kind off odd how the most random stolen stuff turns out important not much later

What kind of burner were you using that the endcap melted?

Ah - I reckon that you must have one of those extremly rare and much sought after versions with the plastic endcaps (the ones that melt very easily). As you can imagine, Fleischmann soon realised their mistake and put out a world-wide recall through all their agents and dealers. Most were returned but just the odd one may have escaped......
Look after the other end Chad!

Come to think of it - SEL had a similar problem with their whistles, eh Ian?
