Golden Arrow Boat Train

There was a bit of excitement down at Folkstone Harbour today. The Golden Arrow was visiting on its way round Kent. A Bulleid Pacific was at the front of the  train and an East Coast 47 on the back. The 47 is there to drag the train down the branch ready for Tangmere to pull the train up the fierce 1 in 30 gradient. Here is a short vid of the train arriving

Here ae a few pics of the loco in the Harbour Station

I was not on the train today, I had just arranged to meet my uncle who was and see the spectacle. We were happily chatting at the station when they announced that for £5 you could get a run up the branch line and back again. No sooner had he finished talking, I was hanging my head out of a window in the second coach behind the loco. A fantastic albeit short trip up the line followed, a real treat that I was not expecting Very Happy .

I met up with my uncle, we said our good byes as he went back on the train.

Here are a few pics of the train departing with perhaps the last train. There is another next month but it is not sure if it will run or not.

Schedule for the 14th March, according to UKSteam.info.

The final trip was supposed to be last year Laughing

After the trip up today I think it should be kept open. The 47 was doing not much more than ticking over when we were going up the 1 in 30. Most of the fire ended up on my daughters coat and in my eyes. Happy days Laughing

I think some people have set up a society/organisation etc. to preserve it. Surprisingly enough not as a preserved line but an architectural monument or similar!
