Funnel fun

Often lost, often overlooked but eminently useful - the humble funnel!

Here we have a few examples from my collection. The Mamod funnels were originally metal with a pressed in brass collar, known as a tundish. They were eventually replaced with the pointless small plastic type sometime around the early 1960s. After realising they were too small, the ubiquitous larger plastic funnel was introduced and is still with us. Red, black, clear and yellow versions can be found. The Luton funnels can be either soldered 2-part brass or funky 1950s plastic, the ones shown here are from the PW201 and PW203. Latimer produced an elegant brass version of the funnel. Bowman of the Dereham kind made the rather wonderful type with the filler tube soldered to a steel pan. The SEL/Merit yellow metal funnel is like the small Mamod funnel, rather inefficient in my view, nice looking none the less. Finally the Wilesco type is a larger Mamod plastic funnel with handy holding tab.

Images of Burnac, Mersey and Cyldon funnels would be nice too. Wink

OK - I get the hint Mike - here's the Burnac and a few more!

The photo quality is very poor - sorry. I'll submit the post but I'll take some better shots in daylight and replace them asap - please 'bear with'.

Now, with a better camera and better light......

Burnac...

It's all brass and needs a polish.

Marklin with it's accompanying filler jug...

Tinplate

Doll...

Tinplate - I used a spare one of these to produce a Bowman chimney cap (ok some of you may not approve and I confess I do get a little quirk of conscience when I look at the E135, but it does look rather good...

Great stuff Stephen, its little things like these that get overlooked!

PS: There is another version of the Luton Brass funnel, with a more pronounced lip to the funnel edges.

Never apologise for posting images of Bowmans! Smile
