Fleischmann 135/2

Well, here's the burner:

Bowman (Sandy) has had problems with his burner becoming a flame thrower and I can see why. Check out the fumes/steam from the meths coming out the vent pipe Shocked

The burner is too powerful for the engine when it's not hooked up to accessories, so I like to "cap off" 2 of the openings with some cork:

...So, do you want to see the engine running? Laughing

Looks powerful and as you say could be dangerous, is it just burner the fumes, as opposed to wick? It looks good whatever. I sure brass or copper blanks would be better. Smile

Yea, it burns the fumes, and sounds like a small torch.

The only name I've heard for this type of burner is "gasifier", anyone know what it's really called, or if that is the name? Confused

The video of the engine has just finished uploading, so I'll post that now...

Here's the engine running at a steady pace with one small flame:

With the size of this boiler, I wouldn't be surprised if I could get a 2 hour run out of the engine using a smaller flame (may have to test it out soon).

I wanted to get some more video of it running on all 3 burners and at full speed, but the camera battery died, so this is all I have so far. (Oh well, it gives me a good reason to fire it up again. Laughing )

Very interesting stuff Nick - very nice engine. Good trick with the corks. Does the engine have a speed controller or was the slow running achieved purely by the single flame?

It has a globe valve up by the steam dome, but I had it wide open with the single flame.

You have to turn the steam supply down with the full flame or the thing will "walk" right off the table. Laughing

Yep, the wick brings the meths up to the burner, and the flame runs off the fumes:

Here's the globe valve speed control on the steam dome (note it also has a weighted safety valve and there is another spring safety valve on the boiler)

Two safety valves? Confused

I think it's because the pre 1956 135's had a filler plug.

They probably stopped using those and needed to fill the hole in the boiler, so they stuck another SV on (just my guess Laughing )

You can see on this site that the early ones had filler plug and a weighted SV:

I rther like the look of these machines - aesthetically pleasing and they look solidly made too.
