Its only the boiler that looks suspect, everything else seems to be an proper Cyldon 13/2.

Nice find Stewart, I suspect the original owner boiled the boiler dry

Look at all aspects of the engine and frame, the holes in the firebox are different, the end of the cyclinder is different, the valve actuator arm is riveted on the real thing not soldered as on this, look at the engine bed mountingg the bolts are wrong the stands are wrong, the whole thing was not made by cyldon, the piston rod diameter is different, the crank build up is different,You need to compare this between photo's and videos of a real one to see nothing is original.Stew.

This has been on ebay a few times before. On its first appearance it was discussed elsewhere at great lengths. Ideas as to it origin ranged from an original engine with a few new parts to what was finally settled on, the ludicrous idea its a Cyldon Prototype.
I cant see that idea being true, for me it is a completely new build using no original parts. It just looks wrong, I suspect it was made by an engineer who had seen a Cyldon and thought he would build one.

I would agree that its where someone has wanted a Cyldon, couldnt get one so built a replica, its a good replica, but it is defriantely not a genuine cyldon and if it were a pre production model, how did it get to America! I said to the chap selling, its an interesing thing in its own right, but not a Cyldon.Doesnt seem much interest in it though,

I'm in total agreement gents. I'm certain that it is a home build, based on the Cyldon design. I agree it doesn't quite look right, it lacks the elegance of the 13/2. As to the Cyldon prototype idea, as you say Ian that is just ludicrous!

When it would come to adding a Cyldon 13/2 to my collection I know for a fact that the only way I could afford to do it would be to construct a replica faithful to the original. This is an exercise I am soon to be undertaking with producing a replica SE4,for costs sake I will make 2 or 3 to cover the costs of producing my own engine, the sale of the other two means I effectively get the first engine for nothing. With the SE4 I will be producing AutoCAD drawings for the parts and outsourcing the sheetmetal work to a local fabricator/powder coater I know in Devizes,he does a good job and doesnt charge the earth.Mike has kindly offered to help me out with providing the dimmensions from his own SE4,to get my rterplica as mm perfect as possible.
