Fabricated lineshaft.

After the long wait to see whether a lineshaft would transpire from anywhere, I finally decided to Fabricate one while we've been slack at work  Embarassed .
I did toil with the idea of stripping and changing the colour scheme on a Mamod Lineshaft that I have, but I just couldn't justify doing that. After all, everyone knows what it is so why spoil it eh ?.

I've settled on something a little unique in design, simple yet functional, take no notice of the aerosol cap it's sitting on !!!

......it's made from 5mm plate, the "A" frames are 130mm high and 80mm wide with the obvious profiled holes and slots added for design. The base is 230mm long and 100mm wide with a 5mm hole in each corner for securing.
The "A" frames have been secured to the base by means of CSK and "Plugging" with the MIG as I felt that any visible weld would spoil the finish I have tried to achieve.

A 4mm diameter shaft of 225mm in length will carry a Mamod Drive wheel and four brass pulleys.

A little larger than the offering of Mamod but I think versatile enough to run with any Engine.

Unusual Jon, a fine set of brass pulleys will set it off a treat.

Very well made JJ, it reminds me of the Mersey tools in style  Very Happy
I like it
P.S. There are a few Mamod flywheels on ebay at the moment  Smile

Damned clever that, and a nice clean design.

Brass wheels will look really great against the black.

I bet your newly refurbed TE will look good alongside it!
John Chapman

Ooh! that's a cracker Jon, I like it a lot.

I need a flywheel with a peripheral groove around the circumference, I might rob my mamod lineshaft of it's wheels and pulleys and put 'em on my new one to see what it's gonna look like.
JJ

Thanks for your comments chaps, I appreciate them greatly.

Aaah - you just can't beat a good peripheral groove round the circumference I say.

Bring it on...

Might be a market for these Jon - have you thought about that?

Maybe Stephen, who knows mate........

Anyway, I have plundered an old Mamod Lineshaft and my Meccano bits for pulleys etc and have cut the mainshaft to the correct length. I shall be putting a video on shortly of this little Lineshafts very successful maiden run.

A piccy.......

The red flywheel sets that off well now Jon! It reminds me of the SEL lineshaft. maybe its the black base and supports?

I was aiming for something that wouldn't look out of place with my SEL gear. Depending on the chosen frame colour, I don't suppose it would look out of place with a whole host of different makes of modern Engines.

I think you've got a bit of a design classic there, everything about it looks just right.

Why thank you very much.

Very nice JJ a real design clasic  Very Happy
steamyjim

That is truly brilliant mate!! Looks reaaaly good Very Happy
silverfoxsteam

I think that's really great.

Get the design registered Jon before someone else pinches it - don't forget there are others watching!

One little 'improvement', if you don't mind me saying, would be a copy of the SEL design in having an alternative, lower position for the shaft,. This allows two shafts to be coupled together and driven as one.
