Exeter Garden Railway Show 25th Oct

http://www.exetergardenrailwayshow.com/

Not strictly toy steam, but will be of interest to many  Very Happy
I'll be there helping out with the Bowman circle on their live steam rail layout (+ a few of my stationary bowmans).
Should be a great day as there's plenty of undercover area, (just in case the uk weather is against us).

I will certainly be paying Rob (Busybodies) a visit.  I also notice from the publicity that Rob will be showing his new 1:12th scale layout, Stately Manor,  I am greatly looking forward to seeing that one for real.
Spokesmann

I have show details and exhibition pack (entry form etc) anyone interested please PM me.

Mike (newts) can yo PM me please!

I have asked for 4 tables to be reserved for myself, so if other members are thinking of attending there should be ample room for their 'wares'! Laughing
Spokesmann

A quick reminder that this event is upon us in under two weeks. Very Happy
Spokesmann

Just a quick update: I hope to be at Exeter for about 8.00am for the event, have you all been sent an email about H&S etc? If not PM me.

I am informed there should be plenty of tables, so should be a good show indeed.

Looking forward to this one! Very Happy

Next to it is the Park and Ride.
MTA

I am planning on putting in an appearance, just sorting out with the SDGRG chairman how I'm going to get from St. Davids to the site...

Simon, the station is a little way from Matford, there is the Park and Ride right next door to the event site. Are you arriving at Exeter Central or
St Davids? Mike (Newts) will be upon Exeter buses, its its 13 years since I worked there . . .  There is always a taxi I suppose? It's sods law the the event venue is on the opposite side of town. Its a bit too far to walk too, about a 10-15 minute taxi ride though.
Spokesmann

MTA

Yes, that is a very long way to walk!

I am going to find out what the train fare will be first, as National Rail Enquiries won't tell me despite having calculated the journey...

Probably about 25 minutes, not sure where the Park and ride travels from in Cemtral Exeter.

Simon,  i'll send you a pm later about transport, gotta dash out in a minute.
I may be able to pick you up depending on time of arrival, but there's a bus from city centre straight to the park & ride if all else fails.  Very Happy

It didn't say on the flyer that, Newts' house is only 5 mins drive from the Matford Centre. Laughing  Laughing

Nice!! At least its only 50 minutes up the road from me, makes a change from driving hundreds of miles!
MTA

I'm sorry to say that I won't make it this year lads.

National Rail Enquiries quoted me £62.50 for a return ticket!

Just to rub it in they said that if I booked 3 months ago, it would have been £19.20 Rolling Eyes

So I shall see you at Exeter in two years time folks Wink  Crying or Very sad
newts

Simon, that's a great shame.
I bet that trains runs pretty empty too, you'd have thought they'd giving good discounts to try & fill it up.
Hopefully we can post up plenty of pics to try & make up for the disappointment of not being there.

Thats a shame, is it any wonder people travel by road.
joiner

It would cost me £109.70 Return by Train
Spokesmann

It is cheaper to fly to Newcastle or Scotland that go by rail from Plymouth. Our transport systems and what we accept are just mad.

(Sorry a bit Off topic!)
joiner

I can go on the North Sea ferry from Hull to Rotterdam for £40.00 with a cabin return
MFSteam

Its often cheapest to book direct with the train opperating companies. I got return fare of £18 from Gatwick Airport to Taunton in June this year, I booked 3 weeks in advance with First Great Western
Spokesmann

All the good deals are on advanced bookings . . . .  FGW are for the most part a shower of sh!t First - NOT, Great DEFINATELY NOT, Western  - yes

can only speak as I found but the ticket was cheap and the trains were on time, cant ask for more than that. Well perhaps a Castle or King at the front of the train q27
Virgin were good £11 single to Birmingham, included local service to London, underground ticket and a seat on the Pendilino, bargin Very Happy
Spokesmann

Virgin trains are usually over loaded (5 car sets), they are usual in our experience always late, and FGW use their clout to give the travelling public down here a p*ss poor service, the HSTs good as they are, are now starting to show their age. No amount of makeovers and refits covers the fact.

Get a Castle or King back  on the front! Laughing
MFSteam

Is it the cross country virgin sets you get your way? I've no experience of them.
What did make me laugh was when we got back to Victoria behind the Bulleid last month we were early, trouble was our connecting service home had been cancelled due to technical problems q27

We have Virgin cross country as well a FGW. Virgin have a few HST sets too, I saw one set parked up a Laira Diesel Depot this morning on my way back from Sainsburys. We do get those awful Pendolinos and and the like too.
joiner

These are the ones that run out of Grimsby Transpennine Express 185

Spokesmann

Oooo thats dog-ugly. Laughing
MTA

Those 185's have the aerodynamics of a brick Laughing

Then again, the 377's we have down here are just the same. Although they are tastefully styled to look like the old Southern EMUs, just like the Wessex 442's that are being brought into use between Victoria and Brighton.
joiner

Its a lot better than the other service we have got Northern Rail.

We have similar 158s down here, not pretty....

Just found out that I will be going Very Happy
Spokesmann

See you there Jim.
newts

I'm looking forward to meeting everybody on Saturday, here's to a great day out Very Happy
I'm at the Venue tomorrow afternoon to help set up some tables & Bowman track ready for Saturday morning.
There'll be much water boiling & meths pouring in preparation for the next engine, as it's hoped to keep stock rolling continuously throughout the day.
Spokesmann

So your in the pits Mike? Laughing

Was a brilliant day! I enjoyed it Very Happy

Bought a Mamod loco for £40! Met Mike, John and Mike!

Saw some damned nice stuff there...could of spent a fortune Laughing
steamyjim

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but will this be happening again this year?

If you want me I would like to exhibit with you Smile
steamyjim

Anyone?
Spokesmann

If its on again, John and I will be there, hopefully Mike and the Bowman circle will be too. Last years response to having a few alternative steam engines there was very, very positive indeed. Check with Mike (Newts).
