Edrigits not mamod..but..
after a good day at kew bridge model steam show, i got home, looked in the front room, no parcle, looked in the dining room, no parcel, so i gave up and made a drink, turn to go out the kitchen, and what do i see but a big parcel hiding behind the front door.
the natural thing for me to do is, get some scissors and rip it all open.
it was very well packed, with some seful foam.
i finally got it out after a while removing tonns of packaging.
one of the first things i would do is, take some pics, but, i lost my camera..... which was anoying because i could take some pics at kew, and there were some good things i would have like to have photographed.
as it was dark, wet and cold outside i didnt steam it first thing...i did it later that night.. in the cold...wet and dark...
despite that, it was great.
it still needs some running in i think, and i have been told that after a few months running it will triple in performance!!.
less chatter more pics..
taken on sunday morning
thanks to dad (boilertite) for taking the pics.
on monday i got it steam tested at my local club (guildford model engineering society) (G.M.E.S), and did the mad thing of walking through a field to the outdoor layout. when i went down, it wasnt raining...much.. but was very cold and windy. then it started to rain. alot...
and got very very wet, my heavy coat weighed about twice as much later and is still drying.
i am now working on making some stock just for it.
i already started making a flat bed bogie wagon. the bogies are accually Binnie Engineering bolster wagon chassis.
silly billy also came round for a play with his new edrig

Superb work andy . . . a really superb engine too. Love that double header. Nice to see all those vids as well, I have a really good look through those this morning. It is a much more serious loco than the Mamod types. Any chance of a few images of the back end? (controls etc). Can you give us a few more details on it too. You are lucky to have that nice layout to run on as well, a very fine set up over all.

Edrig is a great loco! I shall hopefully be treating myself to one this year That will be 3 Edrig owners on here then

sure mike.
this is the cab, and controlls. gas regulator, steam regulator (black knob soon to be replaced by more real looking handle), pressure gauge, reverser and lubricator.
it has an internally gas fired boiler, which is good because it will run in the wind.
to light it you open the smokebox door
the water check valve is open when the boiler is being filled. when the water runs out the valve then its at its maximum height.
it has simulated stephensons valve gear, which is simple and effective.
the lubricator drain is used to drain the lubricator after each run. put the engine in mid gear, open the valve and open the regulator, steam will then run out carrying excess oil and water.
herer you can see the centre flu, where the burner site in. the burner is placed upside down against the top of the tube so that when the water gets below the flu, it doesnt burn it away.
also my home made chuff pipe is visible. which is very effective. its just some 5mm tube with a crimpled top, and two holes, small one at the bottom for water and a bigger one at the top for steam.
(thanks to sam lester for sharing the chuff pipe infomation on building etc.
visible here are the drain and check valves, battery and switch box, valve gear, cylinders and steam in and out box at the front.
as the wheels are situated inside the frames, it can be re gauge from 32mm to 45mm, simply by unscrewing a grub screw and moving the wheels along the axle. the axles have indentations made so you know where to place the wheels, it also helps keep the wheels tight in the axle, with no slipage.

Just one question - are the wires for RC?
|
andysleigh
|
the wire are for a rubbish little lamp i made.
|
Spokesmann
|
OK, suppose it can be made to run via a simple two channel RC set up?
|
andysleigh
|
yes, it is possible.
you can buy it with rc, but its around £200 more.
and requires a diffrent regulator arm then the black knob.

Aye!! I like manual control though!!
|
andysleigh
|
yeah, i prefer manual also, rc takes some of the fun out

They certainly look to be very nice little locos.

Garden railways are not really my thing but I must say that your set up looks impressive and the double heading was great.
