Early German EnginesWell, I hope no one minds but I figured I'd post these pics as my part of the party. These are my early German mobiles. I know this forum tends to stay close to British shores most of the tim. But, I figure as it grows, it will need to explore engines from all round the world.
So here's one of my latest pieces. It's a larger Fleischmann Roller. This dates to after the war and is made with a Doll pressure gauge. Fleischmann made 2 versions of this model and this is the earlier model (later one had chains on the front and a big metal plate attached to the back wheels).
Before WWII Doll was making 3 Steam Rollers (and 2 Traction Engines). Fleischmann took over production in about 1937 but only carried 2 mobiles forward (both Rollers) after the war. Fleischmann stopped production all together of mobiles in 1955.
Here's both Fleischmnn Rollers ('upgrades' on earlier Doll models).
And here's the 2 Rollers with an older Doll Roller. The Doll example is much rarer as this model was not so popular and stopped being made by about 1936.
Doll also made 2 basic Traction Engine models. I've got one of these (smaller version) but one day I hope to get a larger one to go with it.
Now follows my other early German mobiles. These next couple are made by Marklin and date to the 1920's / 30's.
And of course no mobile collection would be complete without a few Bing engines.
This first pair are both small Bing TE's and then is a pic of a Bing Steam Roller.
This final pic is still an un-known model. Lots of people have looked at it and the best guess seems to be, it's made by Carette. But as of yet no pictures to confirm this. So.... I'll list this as a possible Carette Steam Wagon
Hope you like these. My plan (if money allows) before the forums 3rd Birthday is to add a couple more early German mobiles to these during the rest of 2009. I'd love a German Fire Engine or a mobile by one of the smaller German firms like Plank or Falk.
But for now this is my early German mobiles.

Great shots Chris, I rather like that large roller - great detailing and looks to be well made! I only have Wilesco as my German engines! I think now we've got our bearings our sea legs are taking us a little bit further afield now, well further than the Watford gap! Im sure we'll see plenty more German hardware later from our Doll and Plank men!

Thanks guys. I must do some pics of my Wilesco mobiles soon. I have 10 of these now. My latest being a 'special' brown TE made for an Anerican Toy Steam event in the 1980's.

They seem to come up about once or twice a year. It's a bit like the Mamod Brass Roadster, not many made, but always on and off eBay.

Wilesco dont seem to be into limited editions as much as Mamod, possibly the only way of making money... I do think some of the painted variations are a little unimaginative.

I think you're right but Wilesco have done a few. I now own a Blue Roller with an Esso badge on the front. As I've said, a Brown TE (600 made) from the Great Oregon Steam Up, and of course a Red TE which is part of the range Wilesco made for Massey Ferguson (I still need a Red Roller).

Oh that's hard. Loads. I now have 19 Mamod TE's and they seem to bring out a new one every year. Black wheels (2009), Gold Wheels, new piston Samson (2008), New piston but in standard green (2007), short boiler all black (2006) and so on, and so on.
The other Mamod mobiles are not quite so bad but all have been copied or upgraded I think (except the PO Van).

Can you see them fitting the new piston valve engine on the SW or LB1 or DVs for that matter?
