Just been cutting some drive springs ,find that a pair of nail clippers cuts the springs very well just dont tell the wife (she runs a nail company )

They work OK, a fine pair of sharp wire cutter pliers work best though! If the open end is squashed over when cutting, opening up the band end can be a real pain.

Any preferences over Mamod of Wilesco springs?
I've found the Mamod's to be a bit weak, but the Wilesco's come apart too easily!
I'm currently experimenting with dental floss on some of the workshop tools! And it's not 'cos they've got bad teeth.

Mamod ones are finer, which I prefer. The Wilesco ones are thicker. Correctly joined both are OK.

Moose has a good alternative to drive springs.1.5mm dia Nitrile rubber cord glued together. I think the price he was suggesting was very reasonable.

Mamod springs for me every time.
I bought some nice NOS Mamod ones a few years back and they are the very best

Ill use nothing but springs, rubber bands, cotton, dental floss or string just doesn't do it for me . . .
