Does negative ebay feedback really matter ?Does negative ebay feedback really matter ?
While searching ebay I came across these ebayers
gowingstore 765 negative feedbacks this year and 1143 neutrals,
goodterminal 308 negative and 788 neutrals
bestvalueentertainment1 52 negatives and 52 neutrals
And then I found this guy selling negative feedback **thereport**
The idea is you pay him $79 and then you can leave him a negative feedback
Without the fear of a retaliation feedback, the funny thing his I think he sold one and someone left him a positive

I HAVE 1 NEUTRAL AND 1 NEG.
Depends on your tunover and % of neg feedback overall . . .
Its unavoidable in my view . . .

To me it matters, I like to think I know where my money is going ! What I do also find to be of concern is ebay it's self seems to be lowering it's standards, on two occations recently I have reported two very dishonest auction I reported both of these recieved the "thanks you we are looking into it" emails but in both case's the auction was allowed to continue, it would appear they need the fee's !!!

I wouldnt buy off any of those ebayers
Makes me wonder why people trust the guy with over 700 negatives
But they do, and they keep buying off of him

I suppose people look at the Positive Feedback percentages, in this case 99.4% the negatives look a bit smaller when stacked up against over a quarter of a million (264768) positives.
Anyone with that sort of turnover is bound to get negatives.

I always try to look as to the reason of the feedback i.e was it really the ebayers fault or was it due to an unreasonable other ebayer, or perhaps a retaliation 'strike'?
Trying to read into feedback is always required whether it's good or bad feedback the ebayer has - it's easy to buy positive feedback despite ebays attempts to prevent it. That's the first time I've heard someone selling the opportunity to leave negative feedback though. I'm not sure why anyone would want to buy that opportunity.
Now if you could be bothered, you could report that user as they are not offering anything tangible for sale
Back to negative feedback, as JC says, the proportion is also important as is how long ago it was left. e.g. I've seen some ebayers with say 10 negs out of a total of 100 feedback, but the negs were all in their early days, perhaps 5-6 years ago, and then they disappeared for 2-3 years and came back and have received all positives since, making up the majority of their count.
As far as negative & neutral feedback is concerned, does everyone know of http://www.toolhaus.org/ where you can see all such feedback associated with a given user id. (saves wading through all the positives to find it)

A further comment, I have noted of late that many ebayers are damanding positive feedback in-so-much as they say' when you have left me positive feedback I will be happy to do the same', not really the way it should work but again ebay does nothing !!!

In an ideal world the seller should leave feedback as soon as you've payment has cleared for the item. This is the point where the buyer has completed their part of the contract of the ebay sale. Some sellers indeed do this , but they are very rare. I have an item i should be leaving a very bad negative for but i know i'll get an abusive feedback from the useless/decietful seller . This makes a mockery of any feedback system as it relies on peoples honesty.

I have so much feedback waiting to be given to me I have given up. Unless someone leaves it for me now - I dont leave any back . . .

As a buyer, I leave feedback once I receive the item and am happy with it, or after I believe any subsequent negotiations have come to an end. This feedback is left irrespective of whether the seller has left feedback.
There are numerous items I have bought but that I failed to receive any feedback from the seller for - seems to be mostly the items I secured at a bargain price. Perhaps positive feedback only comes at a price from some sellers?
As a seller, I leave feedback only after the buyer has left feedback. This is because whilst I agree the buyer completes their contractual obligation once they pass over the funds, I feel the transaction is not over until the buyer actually receives the item and confirms that they are satisfied; the feedback left by the buyer confirms this.
I regard leaving feedback, whether as a buyer or seller, as the ultimate end of the transaction process.
