Decals/transfers/stickers to professional standard

Just a bit of shameless publicity and promotion...

A quick note to let members know that I am finally selling decal sheets now, these sheets are made up to your requirements, basically any combination of decals that you need that fit onto my sheet size of 210 x  280mm (American quarto/A4).

Decal bases can either be transparent or opaque, opaque being better for darker ground such as fireboxes etc. I can supply most common decals, ie all Mamod, Luton, Bowman etc... All the decals are drawn professionally using originals. These decals are supplied as complete sheets and are priced at £10.00 per sheet plus p+p.

Those that have used my decals will know that these are accurate and can be customised to your requirements, if there is something you require or I dont have it on my list just PM me please. Some samples can be seen on my website.

I can also supply decals on sticky back paper too  - these are ideal for Bowman decals and non-heat related surfaces. Forget the crap that maybe you have heard from other 'purveyors', the artwork for theirs was stolen after being done be me....

Im hoping eventually to use my print contacts and knowlege to have sheets made of the most commonly used types but with the gold backgrounds, this would be an expense that could be shared amongst members. Watch this space.

Thanks for your time.

I need some firebox decals and was wondering how they hold up to the heat. Can they be made any better than the originals were? Have you fired any engines that have them on the firebox?

Nick I have experimented with a few types, all will be OK only for a while, however eventually they will darken, harden and fade EVEN crack, like Mamod waterslide types. The side of a firebox is a pretty silly place for a decal really. I have a MM2 from 1953 with a paper type decal which has stood up OK, suffice to say this may have something to do with the fact the engine has a 2-wick burner which keeps the flame concentrated in one place. My water slide decal will discolour with constant heat. No problem whatsoever with baseplate mounted types.

A sample of a sheet produced for a client who had very exacting requirements for decal type and quantity....

Here is an example of another sheet recently produced, again the client wanted specific types and quantities of each decal.

Thanks Mike, I figured there is no way any decal can stand up to the heat on a firebox whish is why I don't want to put one on a restored engine.

Maybe one could be applied to a thin magnet which could then be stuck on the firebox while the engine is displayed and removed when you fire it... or would it just stick out too much and look a bit silly? Laughing

Thats not a bad idea Nick, you can buy magnetic tape which is really thin
Deffinatly worth considering  Smile
Mike did you contact the guy who wanted the Meccano decals ?
Spokesmann

Mike not yet, i will do!

Nick basically the firebox side is pretty inhospitable as you know! Even the best decals with the best materials and ink WILL fade, crack, burn and fall off. Now if its for a shelf queen then you have no worries...
