Cyldon 13/2 joins the English Toy Steam Collection

Having finally nailed one of these, all I can say it wow, I love them. After seeing so many a shows and seeing Johns and Mikes at Exeter last year, a Cyldon has been a must have buy. I managed to get this on e in the teeth of stiff competition. Of late rre postwar steam toys seem to be attracting premium prices. Here it is with the rest of the clan. Ill do a separate thread in more detail with regard to the engine's technical detailing later. Enjoy.

The shelf has had to be moved arround to accommodate the unusual layout of this wonderful piece of well-made English engineering, it fits in exactly with my collecting aims.

Super engine Mike, as you say fits well with the collection.

I must say I do now rather regret letting the one I had slip through my fingers.  Still, at least I know it has found a good home.   Wink

Fits like a glove John!

A very fine engine and, in amongst so many other 'variations-on-a-theme' it's uniqueness stands out proudly.

Nice one!

Great addition to your collection Mike, that group photo has a quintessential
English look about it.

mine runs superbly, just be warned you will get a lot of priming to start with untill the cylinder warms up

These are ingenious engines its a shame the piston is so small.

Indeed looking at it the cylinder assembly/casting is pretty big compared to the bore. It almost looks like its double-acting, but as we know is single acting, the rocking pivote moving to allow to seperate holes to line up alternately with the steam inlet and exhuast ports.

Mikes 13/2 has the drive and port actuating rod transposed . . .

There has been quite a bit of discussion regarding this and the concensus seems to be that they were assembled both ways round.  It would seem that they work equally well either way, but I believe they run in opposite directions.

Thanks John, interesting point though. How are they put together, I cannot seean grub screws or the like?

The crank is a press fit, dont try and **** around with it, if you move the disk in relation to the crank it will bugger up the timing.

They do run both ways, I've tried it, you can also assemble them so the flywheel is on opposite sides
