Cyldon 13-1 replica chimneyWell I've finally got around to posting the details.
The thing was made possible thanks to 'Brass Cleaner' making some 3/4" tube available - cheers pal!
The photos tell the story, but a word about the chimney's attachment. I intended to reproduce the U-shaped bracket that was originally provided, a tricky one as it had to be curved to match the chimney. That meant forming the shape in three dimensions and I fine two difficult enough!
Scouring the brain for ideas and the garage for materials, I found a pre-soldered yorkshire 15mm copper pipe blank end. The outside diameter was a little too large for the tube and could therefore be reduced - good start. A suitable hole was drilled in the end for the 6ba fixing screw (happily the boiler ready to take it - no damage there). I carefully filed the copper down to a snug fit inside the chimney and was all ready to cut the copper vertically to form the U-shape when I stopped, having realised that what I had was a much sturdier fixing!
The shape was formed using a 3/8" AF 1/2" drive socket, heat, BIG hammer and careful filing!
Good result I thought. Now I just need to refurb the rest of it.

That really looks the part Stephen, the wood and brass of the 13/1 look just right.

Thanks John - you probably recall that it was your information and reference to this very forum that set me on the right track in the first place!

That's a better shape round the base of the chimney than the original . Just goes to show that with simple improvised tools you can produce super results, well done.

Well done mate, I've been using sockets to make the flair on the chimney too. I anneal mine and form them cold.
Thats a nice job. I think I'm going to make a clip for my replacement Cyldon Chimney. I soldered a washer into mine and fitted it with a bolt, sadly it leaks because the chimney is forever being moved. I like your spigot mind.
