Could this be one of the best days of 09 so far??As you know I help out very (VERY) occasionally on my friends Roller and TE but I never get to go anywhere half decent with them as the more long standing crews are given first choice. This is Ok until you spend 10 days in the summer sat outside of alresford station, on your own in the rain and with no one around....
I emailed a guy I kind of know last night to ask if he needed a crew only having had his engine a relitavly small amount of time (5 years) didnt expect to get anything back as ive only met him once or twice...
He emailed me back today asking if I was sure I wanted to make such the leap from gleaming to working clothes and if I was he would be more than happy to take me on!!
Im going to see him on his and my friends TE on sunday and have a chat with him to see whats what!
As you can probably gather im over the moon! Oh and as for the engine its this one here...

That's really great - keeping in touch is always a good idea, you never know when it'll pay off. Taking your own Brasso?
I'm looking forward to this weekend too. I'm over with the WHHR Porthmadog with a piloting turn on the Baldwin-hauled heritage train all Saturday afternoon! I just hope the Lieghton Buzzard crew will let me have a hand on the regulator! I'll post some pics when I get back.
Let's have lots from you too!

Result! I get the odd turn on the rollers at Amberley and it can make a change when you are actually steering a steam engine
Stephen, I had a cab ride on 778 before it was officially launched into service at the LBR and afterwards I got the distinct impression that no-one was allowed to drive it other than Patrick Keef

I remember the loco at Amberley before it's restoration. It'll be good just to be with it again.
The Buzzard crew will be taking good care of it I'm sure. It's really great of them to send it over for just the wekend, it's visit makes the whole heritage train launch even more special as 'Russell's' full rebuild has taken a bit longer that we thought. Our rostered pilots are all 'senior men' and we've a good relationship with the Buzzard lads - and they know us, so here's hoping!

I'm hopeing to blag a ride when it's running round, at some point. What do you reckon Steve? Can't wait till we've got the other one going, I'll certainly be up for training as a fireman on the WHHR then, I'm afraid it's the only loco that really excites me out of the fleet, apart from the LYD2s and the 20hp Simplex.

No promises of course, but if you happen to be in the right place at the right time...
