Bowman M101/Hobbies Lion restorationOk - here we go again. A series of photos showing stages in the rebuild of my, well, don't know exactly, is it a Bowman or a Hobbies? I think we might have a poll soon to help me decide!
In the meantime... this is the beast at it's arrival at the Silver Fox Steam's premises....
Steamable (it ran very well indeed) but neglected, tatty and a mere shadow of it's former self. A strip down followed and an order to MF Steam for some of the missing bits. Most annoying was the lack of a Safety valve. The Bowman circle came up with the details of Chris Ford of Toy train spares (http://www.toytrainspares.co.uk) who makes an excellent replica.
The following shows the condition of the various parts and their responses to 'treatment'...

Further assembly...
All together...
Finally, mounted and temporarily fitted with a chimney cap (borrowed from my E135)...
Well that looks a bit more presentable don't yer fink?

Very nice indeed Stephen.
I have the M101, but with a steam valve, its a cracker.
I keep meaning to put some wonder wick in the burner to get it to go better, it runs beatifully, nice and slow for over an hour, but the burner flame is weedy so it runs out of puff if I run it fast.
By the way, what is that in the boiler flange, just under the safety valve bush, I hate to say it, but is it a stress crack?

It certainly looks like a crack. There's no sign of a steam leak under pressure thank goodness (and I've had it blowing off at the safety valve). The s/v insert has been quite heavily soldered at some time and there are signs of further stress all around it. The longitudinal stay seems intact, which is something else that's positive!
It's old, like me, and getting a bit worn, like me, so I'll just have to take good care of it, like I wish someone would of me!
(She does really! )
