Bowman M101 con rod lengthJust started work on my M101. Can someone just confirm the correct and original length of a 101 conrod from piston to centre of big end eye please?
Thanks Sandy

Sandy,
From the face of the piston nearest the hole to the hole centre is 99.65mm.
Dia of conrod is 4.36mm.
The last 6.35mm of the conrod is 6.2dia with a hole 4.3mm for the crank pin.
Let me know if you want any more sizes or close up pics

Thnks mike, mine is about 98mm. reason i asked is i wondered if piston was coming too far out of cylinder at full stroke,
The 1st "ring/groove" on piston comes out of the cylinder at full stroke, is this ok ??
cheers Sandy

Just been looking at an engine block & the first piston groove is just hidden.
Perhaps your piston barrel is a fraction shorter?
Mine measures 89.3 mm from end of cylinder to centre of crankshaft
(the crank offset is 12.7mm).
Just been having a closer look, not sure if the conrod is threaded onto the piston.
Mine doesn't look fully screwed in, which would make it a bit longer
overall.
Design fault or artistic licence in manufacturing, i'm not sure but it should still run OK.

It looks to far out to me.
Is that solder?, if it is, warm it up, see if the piston will move.
If it does, move the piston to make the distance longer

Yes i will look at that.
Thanks Sandy

I heated the piston as its soldered/threaded onto the conrod, screwed it out an 8th or so. Perfect, or it certainly sits better to my eye ..
Solder up the steam pipe tomorrow and maybe give it a 1st steam... Oh and sort the burner and .....Well maybe tomorrow.!!!!! Or better still 1st steam on Xmas day!! To hell with the kids, What fun.!

Excellent news, you can't beat the sound of a 101's countershaft whining & grinding.
Might even have to steam the ''Lion'' over crimbo.
