Sandy, the boxes are quite hard to get hold of, let alone the lids. No harm asking though! I had a missing lid on my M158 box so had a replacement made of ply. On some Bowman boxes the lids were attached to the main box with a piece of twine/cord or even wire. Hope you manage to get one!

I didnt really expect to find an original lid Mike, But would like a picture of one so i can make an excact copy. I wasnt sure whether the correct lid had any hinges or if there is just a hole for twine or wire!

As far as I know twine was used, only because a couple of mine have it. I have two 101s but no boxes, Im sure someone has one on here.

I think the lids were the same thickness as the bottoms, 1/4" ?
The bowman boxes were rough sawn softwood deal or similar.
Very difficult to reproduce from todays softwoods (whitewood/redwood joinery timber),
as it's not well seasoned & will warp/split at these widths being so thin.
If you can find some reclaimed floor joist from the 20's then you'll have a good chance of a non splitting lid that'll fade to the correct colour after a few years

I have some seasoned 1/2" rough timber, I think it has been pressure treated . ..
By way of information, Bowman used striped card boxes too, this occurred because they could not keep up with the demand for the engines and hence the boxes!

If you can find an old piece of furniture sometimes they have a back made with thin wood which is ideal for the job.

Thanks for that Sandy
I made a few boxes a while ago from plywood offcuts in the garage.
The ply was of pretty poor quality, so i've not publicly paraded them too much.
Birch ply would be good, but it's expensive
