Another loco!I've just bought another loco
I'm remaining tight lipped about what it is for now, I should have it soon though (fingers crossed).

Seeing as it has now been listed as 'sale in progress', here it is:
http://www.chuffed2bits.com/page33.html
I have a mint, unfired SL2 but I have been wanting a runner for some time. As soon as I saw it I snapped it up!
When it arrives; I'll be fitting it with a top up valve (on order from Dream Steam), uprated SV which I have had for a while and a meths burner kindly donated by 'Victor'!
It is to have the name 'Guildford', as that is where I was born I won't fit nameplates though, I dare say it would spoil the look of the loco...

Well Si was right then. Another did come up, it's just that he bought that one as well

I have been wanting one to run for some time, so I quite literally bit the guy's hand off
We should double head them, Paul. It would make a fine sight! Make sure we know whos is whos first though

I can scratch a cross on yours, then there won't be any confusion

Nooo! I think mine already has a few scratches and dings here and there anyway

If not we can soon add another
Only joking All Mamod Locos sould be kept as prisine as possible, whilst allowing for fair wear and tear during operational steamings.

Just got the SL2, it is in better nick than I thought it would be. Seeing as it is such a beautiful day (again!) I'm just popping into the garden to grab some pics.

The paint is slightly corroded behind the whistle:
The loco has been fired a few times, but pushing the loco along it feels a bit stiff in one part of the revolution. The burner though seems to say that it hasn't been used a lot...
Mirror? Who said anything about a mirror?
All in all the loco is a goodun. Good paintwork, but it just needs a gentle clean. I will fit a meths burner, chassis spacer, top up valve and uprated safety valve in due course. I have all of these parts so conversion won't take long!

A nice unmolested example. Im of the mind that in year to come these will be rare as just about every Mamod loco owner has modded and added to their locos.

I can see your reasoning there, Mike.
I only upgrade fired Mamod locos, but only in terms of running. I won't aesthetically modify them.
I have just fitted all of the parts, and they fitted perfectly. Time taken, 5 minutes! First run will be on Sunday, probably on blocks as the weather is supposed to be bad...

Me thinks thats a nice buy!!
In terms of mamod modding its all down to taste!

Good taste and bad taste... a question of. Discuss.

That looks really great. I can't wait to see it at Guildford.
I'll take mine too
An excellent purchase

Are there any un-modded, clean and crisp Mamod locos out there in the hands of Freesteam members.

Indeed, I have a MIB unfired SL2 and a mint unfired RS3 set

Into what?

Not sure, working on some designs in paint, might just fire it and leave it as is, might be the best way or else it will loose a fair bit of value!
|
Minor1PJG

MIB SL4, SL5 & SL6 All unfired of course

Nope, all of mine are modded
Very very nice Si! I'm on the lookout for a SL2 and a SL1k

I steamed up the SL2 earlier, runs brilliantly running forwards. In reverse however it is a bit clunky and needs a bit of help to turn over.
Steam leaks from the port faces and cylinders but it is only minimal and adds to the effect...
There is also a leak near the back of the boiler. I think it might be the 'water window', again nothing serious.

So we'll be able to tell our SL2s apart then Si at the next Guildford meeting

I've just thought of a new nick-name for it, 'Auld Leakie'!

It has a certain ring to it, or should that be hiss

Depends whether you collect locos or run them Mike, I'm the latter, no point having something sat on the shelf.

I disagree, sometimes its nice to keep something for posterity. Its nice to see a Mamod loco in its original makers condition.

I'm with you Mike, some minters, some runners
