Afternoon All

Afternoon all,

My forum name is MTA (as you can probably see!). My real name is Simon King, and before you get any ideas I am not the famous wildlife photographer Laughing My middle name is of some curiosity, with it being Wainwright and all. This rather strange name came from Harry Smith Wainwright who was the Locomotive, Carriage and Wagon Superintendent of the South Eastern & Chatham Railway (SE&CR) from 1899 to 1913. I am 16 and hail from the gorgeous West Sussex countryside. I can just see the tip of the South Downs from my bedroom window! Although living in West Sussex, I was born and lived originally in the next village outside the Town of Haslemere in Surrey.

My main hobby is that of Railways and Engineering. I volunteer on the smaller gauges rather than 'the big stuff'. I am a driver on the 10 1/4 inch gauge South Downs Light Railway in Pulborough (www.sdlrs.com), and a general 'Jack the Lad' at Amberley Working Museum (www.amberleymuseum.co.uk). With the Amberley Museum, I volunteer within the Rail Group, Bus Group and the Road Steam Group! Or as the Museum Director put it recently "A man of many talents" Laughing Buses are mainly my father's and his friends area of expertise, and my interest of railways somehow derived itself from there...

My interests are photography and music from the 60's and 70's. The era for music mainly coming from my mother's side (used to listen to Dire Straits a lot in the car when I was younger) plus I have been watching Life on Mars too much! Photography recently has become a big thing with a recent investment in a 8 MegaPixel Vivitar Digital Camera, which has made my pictures all the more better:

One of my recent purchases there 8) The engine, not the PC!

My collection has grown since 2004 when my love of Toy Steam engines was founded. It started off with a 2002 TE1A one Christmas in 2004, and now my collection is thus:
Mamod SW1 (needs work)
Mamod SE3 (in bits)
Mamod TE1A
Mamod SR1A
Mamod Minor 1
Mamod Water Cart
MF Steam Twin
Wilesco Roller
MSS 0-4-0 Side Tank
Wilesco Locomobile
Wilesco D141
Mamod RS3 set (as left the factory)
Mamod Flatbase Minor 2 (arrived this morning!)
Bowman M158 (in bits)
And of course, a pop pop boat!

No doubt it will keep on growing though! It will be a pleasure speaking to you good people,
Simon King (although MTA or Si will suffice!) Now for a pic of myself:

Taken a couple of years ago, the only difference is I am now passed to drive and I am a bit taller!

Welcome Simon, looking forward to seeing your posts, always well written Very Happy
You'll recognise a few members over here Laughing
ps, keep the window behind you for the pictures, if you take em inside. You'll get a better light balance & less dark shadows on the engine Smile

Thanks for all your welcomes Smile I wouldn't say that MC, (so many Mike's in one post it gets difficult!) Will and Mr. Admin know just as much (if not more!) than I do Wink

The bib is too long really. Will have to stick to jeans and a dust jacket for now Razz I assure you that engine can go much faster! The number is in the event programme, and the corresponding number is displayed on the engine, so the public know what it is 8)

Hey Simon! Great to see you here, mate. Too bad you posted the second pic...spoiled
my joke about how you look alot like Sean Connery with that beard in the first pic. Wink

Now I think you look a bit like that detective in Law & Order, D'Onofrio or something like
that. Too much TV...must...cut back Laughing .

Anyway, good to have a look at you. You're a right handsome lad and perched
in that train you seem very intent and serious...no doubt about it, bib fretting can
be a very weighty undertaking. Wink Wink Laughing

Gotta roast you a little 'cause I admire you, your humor and your intellect...very much!
MTA

Embarassed Thanks Chuck. A better pic soon Wink
