Abbey Pumping Station Model Engineering EventIn case anyone isn't aware we are holding our regular Beam Steam and Model Engineering event at the Abbey Pumping Station Leicester on Sunday April 6th 1.00-5.00pm. This year we will be supplementing the attractions with the Pool starring FC and G1 Tinplate in the Big Shed (if Roger figures out how to bolt the tables together in time)
If anyone is interested in exhibiting PM me and I'll sort it out.

Fred, know, but do you have any recent pictures of the Aveling Living van at the Pumping station. My father sold it to the museum in the 80's. The Marshall 'Jingling Geordie' was still there at the time being looked after by Andy Simpson.

Jinglin Geordie remained at Snibston Museum when the Leicester City and Leicestershire Museums services were split apart again. We have made one or two attempts to get it back but no luck so far. We still have Andy Simpson though
The living van comes out into the sunshine every steam day but I havent got a recent photo I think. I'll have a look anyway. It was out for STIA so if you trawl through the very extensive collection of photos on both forums you might come up with something. Otherwisw I can take some shots at the April steam day. There's not a lot of point in photographoing it in the shed, it's packed more tightly than at STIA!
All the best

Ah but it would be even better if it didn't have that rusty old Marshall Tractor which would be better dumped down at APS

Fred,
myself and a number of others (who worked on the restoration) at Snibston, including my Brother in law who was one of the curators during the restoration tried some 18months - 2 years ago to get Jingling Geordie out.
We got so far that we carried out an inspection, and I wrote a report on its condition.
Basically there is nothing wrong with it that a weeks worth of work wouldnt put right. Thankfully it is well stored in a heated shed.
Sadly the 'powers that be' high up in Leicester Museums blocked our attempt, though we were supported in the museum locally. It was suggested as part of the decision that a return to the Pumping station may be on the cards. It didn't happen, but knowing this it may help you lads get it out!.
PM me if you want to know more.
During the 80's father borrowed Andy many parts off his Marshall in order to copy for Jingling Geordie, the canopy and motion covers were copied I think. Fathers is 68754, JG is 68823

It would be really nice to see JG out and about again but, having said that , there is only so much one can keep running with the limited amount of skilled labour available. At APS we are struggling to get No 1 engine back in steam and beyond that there is the hope of having one of the three (!!!) UK based Steam Shovels back working. JG is an enticing prospect but it is very much on the back burner at the moment. Since we achieved "wiggle" in the frozen up pump plunger on No1 the prospect of Four Beam Engines in one House all working at once has become a real possibility. Unique worldwide!! At a pumping station near you!! Three are impressive enough but Four....
A man can dream.
