A long steam engine, ie Cyldon 13/2 or 4? or a boat Mike?
MFSteam
hmmm, long and thin
Is it a bird or a plane?
Mamod Collector
With the lenght of the packaging I would guess at a boat of some type

It must be a knockwurst sausage from René's kitchen then

I'll have a guess at a vertical steam engine - a candle with the handle.

Sorry chaps i've been watching a footie match tonight (Exeter v Yeovil) & only just got in.
Some good guesses so far, it is English & has just arrived from France.
I'd never seen one of these in the flesh before, only drooled at pictures & videos.
By the length of time it took to get here, it may have travelled under it's own steam

How long did it take to arrve Mike ?

Only 7 days, the seller was very apologetic.
Apparently the French postal service gets backed up a bit during the holidays.
Scorpion2nz
7 days is not long . I am sure our postal system here works on the gravitational theory Auckland (north island) to Christchurch(south island) can be done in 24 hrs but any thing up to a week coming uphill the other way.and back to subject, we are waiting

I've been very impatient for its delivery, as i've been after one of these for a sensible price for ages.
There is a tiny clue within the very first post, you may have to pool all the answers together to narrow down the possibilities that are floating around

Ahhh it must be a Bowman Snipe then, just re-read your first post Mike
newts
You're correct it is a snipe that was sniped
It is complete with burner & holding clip, which is a real bonus.
The decal is modern & according to the recent book, perhaps shouldn't have one at all.
Most importantly it runs like a dream

Ooh! drool, drool. That is brilliant Mike.

Thanks John, just need to find a pond nearby to give her a proper run.
Evidence of some repainting, but overall she has an aged look.
The rudder is a little bent, may have been during transit but not a major problem.
Here she is alongside the recent hull, which is awaiting fitments.

Thats a stunner Mike, are you going to bring it to Exeter, would mind having a closer look at the build etc...

Thanks Tony, i am over the moon with this one.
I have it on the mantlepiece, propped up on blocks at the moment.
Still looking for a steam plant for the other hull, you never know something may turn up.
If anybody has a marine plant (mamod, bowman or other) for sale please contact me

Something suitabley old would be great to power that hull Mike, Im tempted to have a go at one of these myself, after I have completed Arrow-3. If you have a spare Bowman boiler to hand and some parts why not fabricated something? or use one of the Peggy engines you have

It's a very simple hull to build & its proportions are classic lines, especially complete with spray hood & running gear.
Very pleasant on the eye
My Peggy unit is destined for a Seajay (about 6" longer) based hull, i've got the hull plan, just need to get a bandsaw organised for the sides.
I do have an appropriate boiler, but not engine frame etc.
Now i have one for accurate reference the job will be much easier
A short vid of its first run.
8_10 Brass Cleaner
Mike, I have an engine frame that may be of use.

That's a beautiful boat Mike!!...congratulations

Im hoping that weather permitting to have a go at STIA pond and maybe Tilford next year, I should have all three done then, of course there are some ponds down here we can try...

The Armada (of Arrows) steams from Plymouth Sound, not a voyage of discovery but mission of piracy.
A world away a rakish Seajay steams into the English channel from a Sussex Cove, destination & intentions unknown.
Amongst all this mystery A Bowman Snipe is motoring under a full head of steam along the Jurassic coast.
Which will be left floating when all paths cross among stormy waters, off the Isle of Wight.
Pull up a chair, Brylcream your hair & stoke your pipe for the tense hours ahead.
Semaphore signals along the south coast will keep everyone update as the battle unfolds.

The last I heard of her she had taken some appalling damage in an attack from an over zealous owner. She was last seen sitting in dry dock awaiting treatment and installation of a replacement power plant.
newts
Once the landlubber's have had there day with the BL, she'll be hauled across the chalky hills of Dorset & Wiltshire
just like the famous stones near the Hamlet Salisbury.
Whenst she'll be dropped in the water at high tide amongst the
flotilla of small craft eager to watch the ensuing battle from shallow
waters near Lymington.
