Hang on just a minute - wasn't there a maker of mobile engines called Butcher? Manx was asking everyone to lookout for some examples at STIA.
That's what it is then - a Butcher traction engine!

It had me drooling when I got the email with the pictures, stunned at its condition considering they are made of old tin cans. The added bonus of being the Tractor and not the more common ( although scarce) Roller.

Only one advert is known for these engines, here it is:
I cant remember what publication it came from will ask "he who knows" when I see him next.
