1970s mamod SE2aOften overlooked the SE2a is a simple engine to restore and worth buying as they can be picked up relatively cheap.
This is how mine looked a few months ago:
Been doing 'some' work on it, will post a few pics later!

The 'munter' before work commenced . . .
Im quite enjoying getting back into a total renovation . . .
It will need a new set of boiler fitting though . . . .

Some pics from today, this engine was second only to the SE3 in the 1960s and 1970s - not as common as it once was if you ask me - often overlooked for the more glamorous engines . . .
Still a lot to do.

Progress today. Boiler nearly done - just some final polishing out . . . I like to do all by hand, the results are better. Engine frame ready for priming, this will need new pop rivets. Stillmuch to do on the base and firebox.
A new whistle, Over flow plug and safety vavle will be sought.

Still plenty to do on this little engine - managed to find some paint around the workshop - Hammerite "smooth" for the firebox - I'll give that a little 'bake' too! And by chance some Ford Highland green for the engine frame. Still got the base to deal with and carry on polishing out the scratches on the boiler. Coming on now.

Continuing this rivetting thread!
A few pics from this evening . . .
Engine frame now painted along with the base - and pop rivetted into position.
Base was hand painted with 2 coats of signal red enamel on 3 coats of spray primer.

Thanks Mike, quite enjoyed doing this one! I'm sorting the lineshaft that cam with it at the moment. I may build a Meccano motor into it and use it as a powered lineshaft to run tools . . .
Im probably going to hang onto this little fella for the moment. I have two SE2a's now.

The engine frame and firebox are spray painted. The base is spay primed and two coats of enamel by hand - I don't like using power tools either . . . I used a drill to open up the holes for the pop rivets, thats it! I cannot abide engines that have been polished to the nth degree using all sorts of machinery - just my preference.

Since that big firery thing in the sky was out for a bit today, and I had a day off, Id thought Id take some pics of the SE2a outside. Big thanks to Mike S for the lamp!!
This one has been an enjoyable renovation, so Im looking for another complete woeful engine on ebay to work with . . .

Looks really good - That's given me something to aim at! The inside of my chimney has no trace of red paint at all, but I'm beginning to think it may be a replacement. So painting that is another thing to add to my restoration

Nice work there, Mike. I don't know why, but my eyes kept going to the engine
frame in every pic...it looks like new!

Is i the rivets! or the colour! Ford Highland green is a very close match to the 'minty' green shade of Mamod engine frame green!
