When fitting (or re-fitting) an endcap, how 'good' a fit should it be prior to soldering?

My understanding is that there should be a small gap for the solder to flow - but how much of a gap?

I'm preparing to fit a cap onto an SR1 boiler and right now it's a very tight fit.

As I work through the list of jobs, this will crop up again and again.

HELP!

I try to get a tight fit  with no slop  ie firm to press on by hand and not fall off when upended .  I apply flux to the joint then assemble  apply heat and the solder should magically disappear into the joint ie get sucked in by capillary action

An interference fit should be fine. The joints must be scrupulosuly clean though and use plenty of flux. Cleanliness is the key and impurities and the solder wont run properly.

Idont like having tight endcaps, I always go for a 0.005" clearance on the cap, I find the solder runs much better as there is a space for it to go.
