The MEC1 built from 1965-76. Designed by Malins Engineers to Meccano specification. Something of the 1929 engine in the frame design. Endlessly adaptable for all sorts of drive jobs. Replaced by the SP3 in 1979, which didn't last long - only until 1985 when sales were uneconomic. (Video games were getting popular one suspects!).

What I consider to be an essential engine which is endless fun and surprisingly powerful for the size.

The SP3 'Meccano' engine. As per the MEC1 save for solid fuel, sight glass and whistle (also no dome). Equally as adaptable as the MEC1.Can be expensive if boxed - I have seen one go for £400 on ebay (bidiots Razz ). Around 10,000 units made.
