On my way back from a house painting job in Mutley, Plymouth, I always go via Plymouth Station - you never know what you may see...
Today I spied lots of people hanging around the road bridge by the Royal Eye Infirmary, something must be coming or going. To my delight Tornado was simmering away in the Park sidings, after a few comings an goings of FGW HSTs and Virgin Voyagers, Tornado got off to a screech of two toned whistle and steam issuing from the drain cocks. There was a little bit of slippage, but overall a very clean start worthing of a King
I always carry a camera so was able to grab a few images from the lane that runs parallel to the approach tracks to the station, near the site of the old North Road East signal box...
I shot these on a motor drive, but here are a selection....
While Tornado was waiting for the road in the sidings normal Penzance bound and Paddington bound schedules ran..
The loco was in the sidings for about 25 minutes whilst i waited, a fair amount of stoking was going on judging by the smoke....
She's off...
The motor drive enabled me to shoot about 5 frames a second, the light was good so it took a quick time to process...

Nice set of pics there mike
Not sure where she's bound for Paddington?
I heard a Whistle over From St Davids station about 1/2 hour ago, which i suspect is the very same train.
Unfortunately i'm unable to drive for a few days, otherwise i'd be straight over
to see if she was still there. _________________
